Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.

After last week’s instance of RWD Volvo Wagons (or Estates as the British call them), I decided to continue the saga this week with the FWD Volvo Wagon version of Generation Gap! Today we go from the original FWD Volvo Wagon, the 850, all the way up to the most recent V60. Let’s review the options in between:

The options:

Volvo 850 [1991 - 1997]

Kinja'd!!!

First Generation Volvo V70 [1996 - 2000]

Kinja'd!!!

Second Generation Volvo V70 [2000 - 2007] (and facelift)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Third Generation Volvo V70 [2000 - Present] (and facelift)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Volvo V60 [2011 - Present] (and facelift)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Now, when making your decisions remember that most of these had a high performance variant: the 850 T-5R, two generations of V70R, and the Polestar V60. Vote below!

First gen V70 just because my dad had one and it was awesome.

I favor the 2007 model because I feel like it was the pinnacle of Volvo styling before they started to get TOO modern and raise the belt lines while embiggening the grilles and adding LEDs everywhere.

Even though I have a 2005 S80, I think the 2007 model S80 also fits the bill for that.

Once a week...but really, thanks for the positive feedback! This is only the fourth edition of the series, you can find the other three at this link: http://oppositelock.kinja.com/tag/generation…

As someone who drives a first-gen 850 wagon everyday, my vote clearly goes where my money went, but I also like the second-gen V70s.

Beautiful wagon! That is the kind of environment to put your headlight wipers to use, but it looks like you don’t have them...I prefer the 2nd gen V70 because my dad has a pretty awesome 2001 T5 that has 204K miles and still goes like stonk...

I was gonna say, “I’m available with and via XC70 trim? I’m better equipped than I thought...”

You know which one I’m going for :D

Though, a P2 V70R wouldn’t go amiss either, especially if it had a spaceball.

I like the 850 turbo wagon, but it was auto-only in the US. For the manual, we had to wait until the V70 redesign.

There’s also the first-gen V40 wagon
